The national and the territorial orders of precedence ship configured and kept current. They are the base almost every ceremony uses, at least for the outside authorities in the room.

Underneath that base every institution has its own order, and it is almost never written in law. A university senate, the board of a bank, the council of a professional body, the chain of command of a unit: real hierarchies that have to be respected in the hall, and that no legislator regulates. In CerimoniereWeb you define each one once, as the protocol of that institution, with its categories, its offices and the criteria that separate two people holding the same office.

From then on the only thing that changes is which protocol applies to which ceremony. The register of people stays single.

When hierarchies meet

The hard case is not ranking one homogeneous group. It is the room where a prefect, a rector, a general and the president of the bar association sit together: four different logics inside one seating order: public office, academic role, military rank, elected position.

That is why protocols combine instead of excluding each other. The national or territorial order handles the outside authorities, the institution’s own protocol handles its organs. The software merges the two lists into a single ranking and lays it on the plan of the hall, with reserved seats, proxies and accompanying guests.
